Swiss companies face an uncertain future after voters backed plans to restrict migration. The move to introduce a quota system will impact on European Union workers in particular. Many Swiss companies depend on these.
The vote also threatens Switzerland’s trade agreements with the EU, which are linked to the free movement of people. Half of Switzerland’s exports are to the EU, with Germany its biggest trading partner.
