Langenthal porcelain company goes bust
The Langenthal porcelain china company, manufacturer of the popular Bopla! product range, has gone into liquidation threatening up to 1,000 jobs.
Management at the company said its financial partners had lost confidence in the firm despite a turnaround in its fortunes.
The firm, founded in 1906, had embarked on a major restructuring programme this year which reaped a positive cash flow. However, the cost of the reorganisation eroded the group’s reserves.
The economic downturn had also weighed on the company and undermined management’s efforts to restructure.
Existing stocks are to be sold off in the coming days. Talks on the terms of redundancy will be held with workers in Switzerland, Italy, Austria, France and the Czech Republic.
