Swiss exports continue to grow
The export of Swiss products increased by 1.9 per cent in March – still strong, but considerably less than in January and February.
During the first quarter of 2011, Swiss exports went up by 5.8 per cent for a total value of SFr50 billion ($56.88 billion). The growth trend continues despite the strong Swiss franc.
This increase is roughly the same as that in the third and fourth quarters of last year, the Federal Customs Administration announced on Tuesday.
Swiss watch exports did especially well according to figures released by the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry on Tuesday.
In the first quarter they rose to SFr3.93 billion – and increase of 14.7 per cent in comparison with the same period a year ago.
In March alone, watch exports went up by 11.1 per cent to SFr1.4 billion.
