Why Swiss forests no longer need rescuing

Back in the 1980s there were fears that Swiss forests were dying out. But between 1995 and 2006, woodlands expanded from 59,500 hectares to 1.28 million hectares, because many areas are no longer being cultivated. Now a parliamentary environment committee is recommending changing the laws governing forests, so that it will be possible to cut them back without having to plant the equivalent number of trees elsewhere.
