British productions dominate Golden Rose television awards
The British television show "Lenny Henry in Pieces" has won the prestigious Golden Rose award. UK productions dominated the Golden Rose Festival's prize-giving ceremony in Montreux, scooping no less than six of the 16 prizes available.
There were a total of 89 television programmes vying for the coveted Golden Rose award. No Swiss television show featured among the prize-winners announced this week.
Three British productions, in the category of television game and variety shows, received a Silver Rose. Two Bronze Roses were awarded for a comedy and a sitcom.
The Press Prize went to a biography of the life of Freddy Mercury, the late singer and flamboyant member of the rock group, Queen. The documentary took three years to make and was filmed primarily in Zanzibar, London and Montreux, Switzerland.
The Prize of the Town of Montreux went to “The Joel Files”, a programme dedicated to the grandfather of the American singer, Billy Joel.
Austria also shone at the gala, receiving three awards. The new e-Rose prize was awarded to the Austrian programme, “Taxi Orange”, which was produced to suit being broadcast on the Internet.
The Rose of Honour was awarded to German star, Rudi Carrell.
