Félix Vallotton
An avant-garde observer of his times returns to Zurich.
Félix Vallotton (1865-1925) was born in Lausanne but moved to Paris in 1882, where he became associated with the influential Nabis circle of artists. There Vallotton distinguished himself from his contemporaries through his ironic portrayals of society. His sometimes mysterious paintings work on different levels and contain formal elements that were to be found later in Surrealism and New Objectivity. Zurich’s Fine Arts Museum presented an exhibition of his work in 2007 and 2008.
