Winners from nine countries have scooped up the dozen prizes awarded at the 50th Rose d’Or Global Television Festival in Lucerne.

“La Bohème at the Tower Block Switzerland”, a Swiss television production, won in the variety and live event category. It featured the Puccini opera classic staged in the city of Bern.
Britain claimed two Golden Roses: one for The Inbetweeners, a sitcom about awkward youths, and another for Blood, Sweat and Takeaways – a reality show looking into the Indonesian tuna business.
Benidorm Bastards, a Belgian comedy about senior citizens, was named best of 2010, while Desert Tears, a German documentary on genital mutilation, won the festival’s new social award.
To commemorate the festival’s 50th anniversary, Golden Jubilee Awards were presented to British soap opera Coronation Street and British talent judge Simon Cowell for their contributions to entertainment television.
This year’s festival, which concluded with an award ceremony at Lucerne’s Culture and Convention Centre (KKL), was a record-breaker with 515 programmes from 40 countries in competition.
