The "Oppenheimbrunnen" erected as part of the restructuring of the Waisenhausplatz in Berne - at the time, a public parking space, or "rather a desert made of cars", in her words. The ten metres high fountain made waves when installed in 1983, and the disputes over its 'beauty', its final setting, and its meaning for the city extended much beyond the artist's death, in 1985.

Oppenheim's pals, a wild bunch: Bernese artists Herbert Distel, Markus Raetz and Jean-Frédéric Schnyder called on the people of Bern to show up at the Christmas exhibition in the city's Art Museum adorned with labels, so that they become artworks themselves. Bern, December 7th, 1968.

Carona, in the canton of Ticino, was Oppenheim's favourite abode, and where she asked to be buried (right). The sculpture displayed in a central square of the village (left) is practically the same as the one that adorns the front of the Goetheanum, the Anthroposophic headquarters in Dornach, near Basel.
