Richard Strauss: Eine Alpensinfonie (An Alpine Symphony). Orchestre de L’Opéra de Paris. Philippe Jordan, conductor.
Swiss Philippe Jordan, son of late conductor Armin Jordan, has risen to eminence in the classical world. Last year he has started his tenure as principal conductor of the Orchestre de L'Opéra de Paris. Jordan chose Strauss' dramatic tone poem An Alpine Symphony for their inaugural appearance. This concert was recorded and has now been released. And the interpretation marked a thrilling event indeed. Besides massive tone clouds, the many intimate passages, bringing nearly surreal sounds alive, catch the listener's ear.
