Swiss painting sold for record CHF7.5 million

A painting by Swiss artist Albert Anker fetched a record CHF7.5 million ($8 million) at the Koller auction house in Zurich on Friday.

The oil painting Turnstunde in Ins (physical education lesson in Ins), which Anker painted in 1879, was sold to an unnamed bidder. The value of the painting had been estimated at between CHF3.5 million and CHF5.5 million.

Worldwide, none of Anker’s paintings has ever sold for such a high price, according to auctioneer Cyril Koller.

Pont de Clichy by Vincent van Gogh, another painting sold at the auction on Friday, received a bid of CHF6.6 million. Its estimated value was CHF5 million to CHF7 million.
