I have a wealth of experience as a journalist working in Switzerland and enjoy producing videos, articles and podcasts on a range of subjects, recently focused mainly on politics and the environment.
Born in the UK, I studied law at Nottingham University, then went on to attend the first-ever post-graduate radio journalism college in London. After working as a radio journalist in the UK and then Switzerland from 1984 to 1995, I returned to the UK to complete a post-graduate diploma in film at Bournemouth Film School. I have been working as a video journalist ever since.
The Zurich home of the recently deceased rock icon Tina Turner has become a place of pilgrimage for fans, with some of them even trying to climb over the fence to get a closer look at her villa, according to news reports.
Since Turner died on May 24, fans have been gathering daily in front of her home, Villa Algoquin in Küsnacht, to mourn the death of the so-called Queen of Rock’n’Roll, laying flowers and lighting candles. A relative of the star’s husband, Erwin Bach, told the 20 Minuten newspaper that police had been called in three times after some fans attempted to enter the extensive grounds. Bach’s relatives are said to be taking it in turns to keep a vigil at the property, to help protect the privacy of the grieving widower.
Around the world Tina Turner was known for her many hits and her charismatic stage presence. But in Küsnacht, canton Zurich, where she lived for nearly three decades, her life was mostly quiet and spiritual. She did her own shopping and stood in line at the post office. She bought the lakeside Villa Algonquin in 2020. In this video, SWI swissinfo.ch looks back at the star’s very private life in Switzerland.
