UN chief appeals for Swiss help on key issues
Addressing the Swiss parliament, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon congratulated Switzerland for making its “mark in so many ways” on the world body during its first ten years as a UN member.
Citing the Swiss contribution to reforming the Human Rights Council and its championing of human rights issues within the world body, Ban said Switzerland had been an “extremely generous” UN member.
And he called on Switzerland to “help us” resolve key issues facing the fractious body such as climate change, nuclear disarmament and the crisis in Syria.
“The bonds between Switzerland and the United Nations are strong and growing stronger. At this time of uncertainty and unease it is good to know the United Nations can count on your support and friendship,” Ban said. (swissinfo.ch)
