Chock-a-block
Le Lignon, which stretches for more than a kilometre, is one of Europe's longest residential buildings.
The complex with 17,000 rooms was built in response to an acute housing shortage in Geneva more than 40 years ago. The vision of architect Georges Addor still seems bold in today’s world. The percentage of unoccupied dwellings in Geneva is as low now as back when Le Lignon was conceived and “high density housing” is back on the agenda. A vision from the past.
