Dream start for Swiss paralympic team
Switzerland's paralympic athletes were celebrating on Friday after Ruedi Weber took gold in the sitting biathlon.
Weber ensured his Swiss teammates at the Winter Paralympics in Salt Lake City had something to celebrate when he stole ahead of the course to win the race with a flawless performance and bag the first gold medal of the tournament.
The 43-year-old paralympian finished the 7.5 kilometre race at Soldier Hollow a full 14 seconds ahead of his nearest rival, Austria’s Oliver Anthofer.
Weber, who has been paraplegic since 1989 as a result of a work-related accident, was also a member of the Swiss paralaympic squad in the two previous Winter Games in Lillehammer and Nagano.
