Federer reaches Vienna semi-finals
Basel's Roger Federer has swept into the semi-finals of the ATP tournament in Vienna, beating Richard Krajicek of the Netherlands in straight sets.
Displaying the attacking form that got him past Max Mirnyi of Belarus a round earlier, Federer beat the former Wimbledon champion 6-4, 6-3.
The Swiss player delivered excellent returns and clinched the opening set with a fantastic drop shot. A quick break for a 2-0 lead in the second set paved the way for victory.
“This was definitely one of my better matches as I was playing against a big partner. Krajicek has been playing really well this last year,” said Federer.
“I am waiting for a first title and I would love to win it here. This year I didn’t set my goals on a good ranking but on winning a title.”
Federer’s next opponent will be Britain’s Tim Henman who defeated Fernando Vicente of Spain 6-4, 7-6.
