Geneva hotels among most expensive
The Swiss city of Geneva comes second after the Italian island of Capri in a ranking of the most expensive hotel rooms, according to an international price index.
New York City follows Geneva in the ranking, with room prices up 14 per cent from a year ago.
The survey by hotels.com, published on Tuesday, found hotel rates picking up for the first time in three years.
In Geneva, and Switzerland overall, average hotel room rates went up eight per cent to $254 (SFr 254.90) per night.
The largest price rise for any destination was in the Indonesian holiday resort of Bali, with room rates surging 57 per cent.
Some of the greatest price hikes coincided with major events.
Rounding out the top ten were Dubrovnik in Croatia, Venice, Rio de Janeiro, Paris, Bali, London and Moscow.
