Hingis through to French Open quarter-finals

Hingis celebrates victory over Testud Keystone

The women's world number one tennis player, Switzerland's Martina Hingis, has booked her place in the French Open quarter-finals after defeating France's Sandrine Testud.

Despite conceding the second set to the French player, Hingis finally won Sunday’s match 6-1, 2-6, 6-2. She now goes on to face Italy’s Francesca Schiavone, who beat Zimbabwe’s Cara Black in straight sets.

In a rather surprising turn during the match, an unidentified spectator threw an egg onto the court. Hingis, however remained unphased by the incident.

“I had the impression it was an egg. But it didn’t disturb me, and I didn’t have the impression it was aimed at me”, Hingis said.

The flying egg hit the court during the 6th game when Hingis was leading 5-0 after only 18 minutes of play.
