Swiss tennis player, Martina Hingis, is through to the semi-finals of the $565,000 WTA tournament in Los Angeles, following her victory over Amy Frazier of the United States.
The world number one defeated the American 6-2, 6-3 in straight sets in the quarter-finals on Friday.
Hingis, who has been suffering from a sore back, will face the American Monica Seles in the semi-finals. Seles, who ranks sixth amongst the world’s best players, beat defending champion and compatriot Serena Williams 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 in their quarter-final match.
After her 69-minute sweep, Hingis said: “I didn’t think I played my best today, but it was good enough against Amy. She’s one of these players that you have to be ready because she’s dangerous on any occasion.”
Due to her nagging injuries, the 20-year-old Swiss player pulled out of next week’s WTA Tour stop in Toronto.
