How an army sought asylum in Switzerland

This summer, a new educational trail will illustrate a little-known episode in Swiss history. In February 1871, 87,000 French soldiers sought asylum in Switzerland. The soldiers of the Bourbaki army were fleeing from German troops in the Franco-Prussian war. They surrendered their arms and ammunition at the border post at Les Verrières in Canton Neuchâtel.  (SRF/swissinfo.ch)
