Lions stay top, while Davos smash Langnau

Zurich Lions held onto their lead in hockey's top league, after a tough away game against Ambri left them victorious. They beat the canton Ticino side 4-3 in Tuesday's match.

Both sides were equally matched in the first and second periods, taking a goal each to leave the score at 2-2 as they went into the third. But the Lions got the better of Ambri in the final period, with two goals to the hosts’ one.

The win leaves them on 38 points, a full five ahead of second-placed Davos. But the Zurich club will not be complacent, having played 27 games to Davos’ 24.

Davos turned out a spectacular performance against Langnau, who are struggling in the play-out zone. They treated the canton Bern visitors to a shower of goals, two in the first and second periods, and three in the third.

Langnau were unable to find the Davos net, and are nursing wounded pride after their 7-0 defeat.

In the night’s other games, Bern beat Chur 5-1, a score line matched in Zug’s match against Rapperswil. Last season’s finalists Lugano managed a 5-4 victory over Fribourg.

Meanwhile, La Chaux-de-Fonds were still unable to lift themselves off the bottom, losing 2-3 to Kloten. The canton Neuchatel side have just six points and a mere two wins this season.
