Love Life campaign targets STIs

The latest phase of the Love Life public health campaign will target sexually transmitted infections (STIs) as a means of combating the threat of HIV.

It will be driven primarily by television advertising encouraging people to consult a doctor more regularly when something “burns or itches”.

Cases of sexually transmitted infections such as syphilis and gonorrhoea are on the rise in many European countries, including in Switzerland.

“Someone who has an STI will contract HIV more easily, and inversely, people with HIV who also have an STI will transmit HIV more easily,” the Federal Health Office said in a statement to launch the campaign on Monday.

The health office said STIs could lead to chronic illnesses, cancer, infertility and pregnancy problems.
