Lucerne missed a number of good chances at home to Servette, but fell to goals by Petrow and Rey.
There is now speculation about the future of trainer, Andy Egli, as Lucerne face their first play-offs since the 1996/7 season.
The other team already doomed to fight for their first division survival are Neuchatel Xamax who are currently in last place, behind Lucerne.
