Lucerne face relegation play-offs after home defeat

Two crucial games were played in Switzerland's football first division on Saturday, that will help determine which four clubs face relegation play-offs when the season resumes after the winter break.

Lucerne lost 2-0 at home to Servette Geneva, and now find themselves second from bottom – and one of the two teams already facing the play-offs.

Lucerne missed a number of good chances at home to Servette, but fell to goals by Petrow and Rey.

There is now speculation about the future of trainer, Andy Egli, as Lucerne face their first play-offs since the 1996/7 season.

The other team already doomed to fight for their first division survival are Neuchatel Xamax who are currently in last place, behind Lucerne.

Struggling Yverdon drew 1-1 at home to league leaders Lugano on Saturday. They are third from bottom, but still have an outside chance of avoiding the play-offs.
