Nordic skiers Ammann and Cologna finish strongly
Swiss ski jumper Simon Ammann has placed third in the last competition of the Four Hills Tournament, while cross-country skier Dario Cologna finished second in a Tour de Ski race.
Ammann led the field in Bischofshofen, Austria after his first jump of 136 metres but had to settle for third place and fifth in the tournament after a second attempt of only 131.5m.
The winner of the Bischofshofen event was Austrian Thomas Morgenstern followed by Finland’s Janne Ahonen.
Yet another Austrian – Andreas Kofler – was the overall Four Hills winner. He came fifth in Wednesday’s event.
In cross-country’s Tour de Ski race in Cortina, Italy, Cologna was part of a three-way sprint to the finish, crossing the line only 0.4 seconds behind Norway’s Petter Northug.
Northug’s win in the 36-kilometer freestyle race won him back the overall lead in the Tour de Ski standings. But his lead on Cologna is only 0.4 seconds – the fraction he edged him out by on Wednesday.
Three of the eight Tour de Ski races are still to come.
