Air traffic at Geneva airport was returning to normal on Thursday after snow storms forced its closure on Tuesday evening.

More than 200 passengers had been stranded because of the weather conditions. An airport spokesman said that 60,000 cubic metres of snow or 2,000 truck loads had to be cleared.
Bertrand Stämpfli said that “traffic was returning slowly to normal” after snow-clearing teams had worked “hundreds of hours ”.
Many of the passengers spent a second night in civil defence shelters, while others stayed at the airport.
At the EuroAirport in Basel on Thursday morning, several flights had been cancelled, including those to Munich, Lyon, London and Frankfurt.
The first flights from Zurich airport went ahead as scheduled but a spokeswoman said that because of the bad weather conditions at other airports eight departures and 14 landings would be cancelled.
Snow clearance teams at Bern airport spent all night clearing the runway to permit flight operations on Thursday.
