Rosset fails to build winning run

Swiss number two Marc Rosset has suffered another early exit on the ATP tour, losing in the second round at Barcelona to Spain's Galo Blanco. The defeat means that Rosset is yet to win two matches in a row this season.

Just seven places lower than Rosset in the current world rankings, Blanco edged ahead after winning the first set on a tie-break (9-7). The Genevan then succumbed 4-6 to maintain his miserable run of performances this year.

Bern’s Michel Kratochvil enjoyed a much better day, winning two tie-breaks against Argentina’s Guillermo Coria to book a place in the third round of the one million dollar tournament.

After winning the opening set, the Swiss number three lost the second 7-5, before narrowly wrapping up his 7-6, 5-7, 7-6 victory. In the last 16 Kratochvil will now face Spain’s Tommy Robredo, who on Wednesday completed a surprise straight sets win over eighth seed Sébastien Grosjean.
