Rosset falls at first hurdle – again

Switzerland's Marc Rosset is out of the Hamburg Masters Series after losing in straight sets to the Swede Magnus Norman, 3-6, 5-7. The defeat was Rosset's fourth first round exit in as many Masters Series tournaments this year.

Immediately after Tuesday’s match, Rosset appealed for a new coach to halt his dramatic slide down the sport’s rankings. The 30-year-old Genevan, who has been training in Hamburg with Nicolas Escudé’s coach Arnaud Casagrande, is currently ranked 65th in the world.

“Casagrande’s help was timely,” Rosset explained. “But I’m looking for a new coach now. Stéphan Oberer is only able to help me from time to time, and Georges Deniau doesn’t want to travel any more. I’m issuing an appeal. I need someone good.”

Norman took advantage of a brittle Rosset, who played well but cracked when under pressure.

At one point in the second set the Swiss was leading 5-3 only to lose the next four games on the trot and extend his losing sequence against Norman to four matches in a row.

“My serve deserted me at a critical moment,” said Rosset. “This match reminded me of the one I played against Moya in Monte Carlo. I let slip a good opportunity.”
