Skier Albrecht “stable” three days after crash
Swiss skier Daniel Albrecht remained in stable condition and was still in an induced coma on Sunday, three days after a downhill training crash.
Albrecht had a “quiet and very stable” third night at the Innsbruck University hospital in Austria but doctors postponed the wake-up procedure, a clinic spokesman said Sunday.
“For the doctors, there is still no reason to be too worried,” Johannes Schwamberger said.
Albrecht suffered brain and lung injuries after crashing on the famously difficult Streif course in Kitzbühel on Thursday, although doctors say his brain is not swollen and that blood circulation and lung functions remain stable.
The 25-year-old skier lost consciousness after tumbling close to 50 metres through the air at almost 140km/h and received medical attention for about 20 minutes on the piste before being taken to hospital.
Albrecht is the reigning super-combined world champion and has four career World Cup victories – three in giant slalom and one in super-combi. He is tenth in the overall World Cup standings.
