Swiss fail the giant slalom test
The Swiss team disappointed ski fans on Saturday and failed to make the top ten of the women's World Cup super giant slalom race in Lake Louise, Canada.
The best result came from Corinne Rey-Bellet who finished in 16th place, completing the super G course in 1:50 minutes.
Rey-Bellet, who came sixth in Friday’s downhill race, scored Switzerland’s only point during the race. She was over 30 seconds slower than Germany’s Petra Haltmayr, who stormed to first place in 1:15,09.
Sylviane Berthod negated her impressive second place ranking in Friday’s race by finishing up in 40th place, completing the course in 2:27 minutes.
Catherine Borghi, who grabbed fourth place in her first race on Thursday, slumped to 33rd place.
Austria’s Micheala Dorfmeister retains in first place in the overall world cup rankings with 319 points. Switzerland’s Sonja Nef ranks fourth, with 140 points.
Rey-Bellet and Germany’s Hilde Gerg rank joint seventh, with Berthod slipping to ninth place.
