US Democrats in Switzerland favour Obama

American Democrats living in Switzerland have voted strongly in favour of Barack Obama in the Democrats Abroad Global Primary.

The Democrats Aboard International Chair, which is based in Geneva, said that 71.8 per cent chose Obama as their preferred presidential candidate, with 27.5 per cent for Hillary Clinton.

Worldwide the results, gathered by online voting, were 65.6 per cent for Obama and 32.7 per cent for Clinton. Polls took place between February 5 and 12 this year in 164 countries.

Obama’s victory among Democrats living abroad is his 11th straight win over Clinton.

The global results determine the allocation of 4.5 delegate votes at the Democratic National Convention. Obama gains 2.5 of these, and Clinton two. A further 2.5 votes will be determined at the Democrats Abroad Convention in April.

The US presidential election will take place on November 4.
