I am on this forum to share my story with you in order to make the less initiated among you aware of this type of scam, which is quite common on the Internet these days, and to prevent others from being taken in like me. I was the victim of a major scam. The culprit behind the profile used was a black African man who hid behind a photo of a handsome white man, telling me he was an oil businessman who needed to travel urgently to Africa. When he arrived in Africa, he waved to me and we chatted on WhatsApp for a few weeks. After that, he told me he'd been the victim of an assault and was asking me for help, and that's when my ordeal began. I lost up to 36,400 euros. Given the situation, I filed a complaint with the gendarmerie in my locality, but nothing was done because the culprit was in Africa, so I contacted the Office de Lutte Contre la Cybercriminalité sur Internet, which took my case in hand, and the person who had passed himself off as a Frenchman and swindled me was arrested, and I got my money back as well as compensation. Let's be vigilant on the internet and especially on social networks, so if you think you're the victim of a scam, you can contact the Office de Lutte Contre la Cybercriminalité and they'll help you stop your scammer.

Je suis Veronica DEMARAN âgée de 52 ans et je suis sur ce forum pour partager avec vous mon histoire afin de sensibiliser les moins initiés d’entre vous un peu à ce type d’escroqueries assez courantes sur internet de nos jours et d'éviter à d’autres personnes de se faire pigeonner comme moi. J'ai été victime d’une grosse arnaque. Le coupable derrière le profil utilisé était un homme noir africain qui s'était caché derrière la photo d'un bel homme blanc, me disait être homme d’affaire du milieu pétrolier qui devait se rendre urgemment en Afrique. À son arrivée en Afrique, il m'a fait signe de vie et nous avons dialogué sur WhatsApp pendant quelques semaines. Suite à cela, il m'a dit qu’il a été victime d’une agression et me demandait de l’aide, c’est à partir de cet instant que mon calvaire a commencé, j'ai perdu jusqu'à 36.400 euros. Compte tenu de la situation, j’ai porté plainte auprès de la gendarmerie dans ma localité mais rien n'a été fait car le coupable étant en Afrique ainsi donc je me suis rapprochée de l'Office de Lutte Contre la Cybercriminalité sur internet qui a pris mon dossier en main et cette personne qui se faisait passer pour un français et m'a escroqué a été arrêté puis j'ai récupéré mon argent ainsi que des dédommagements. Soyons vigilants sur internet et surtout sur les réseaux sociaux, alors si vous pensez être victime d'une arnaque, vous Pouvez prendre contact avec l'Office de Lutte Contre la Cybercriminalité et ils vous aideront à arrêter votre arnaqueur.

A person is a person regardless of his nationality. I think that such a study conducted in another country would reveal that men are always less willing to make radical life changes for women. I met my Swiss husband in a Middle Eastern country and we got married there. Less than two years after our wedding, he was eager to return to Switzerland. So we did. He is now in his country, and he is proud of it all the time. It is a wonderful country that has had an exceptional experience. However, from my experience, I think that the mentality of the Swiss man has not advanced at the same level as the country. Some men who grew up before the eighties, still have in their memory masculine glory and feminine submission. They still believe that women were created to follow men, not vice versa.

The great love that brought me to Australia was... the country itself!
After many long journeys in Australia and the clear consciousness that I would live here one day, I began a relationship with my second great love, whom I had already met during my 2nd journey. I flew back to Switzerland, quit my job, sold or gave away most of my belongings and flew back to my two great loves. (interestingly, it feels wrong to use the plural of love here, it wouldn't be the same feeling anymore).
With the help of Sandra I was able to realize my dream in the following 5 years - I became an Australian citizen.
Meanwhile we are married for 12 years and contrary to some warning tongues, still happy together and travel the country together.
Since one year she is now also Swiss.

Reise kennengelernt hatte. Ich flog zurück in die Schweiz, kündete meinen Job, verkaufte oder verschenkte den grössten Teil meiner Habe und flog zurück zu meinen beiden grossen Liebe. (interessanterweise fühlt es sich falsch an, hier den Plural von Liebe zu verwenden, es wäre nicht mehr dasselbe Gefühl)
Mit Hilfe von Sandra konnte ich in den folgenden 5 Jahren meinen Traum verwirklichen - ich wurde Australischer Staatsbürger.
Unterdessen sind wir seit 12 Jahren verheiratet und entgegen manch warnenden Zungen, noch immer glücklich zusammen und bereisen gemeinsam das Land.
Seit einem Jahr ist sie jetzt auch Schweizerin.

I grew up in Pakistan, but my family had immigrated to the US many years ago in the early 19th century, and hence, we were in line for immigration for 20 years before we were granted immigration status in the US. The first time I travelled to the US was when I was 10 years old. Our family moved to the US not only because of work opportunities, educational opportunities, but also because of diplomatic reasons. A few of us also moved to the US as asylum seekers. Hence, for many of us it was not a some luxurious dream, but a necessity.

It seems from the contributions so far that 'falling in love' usually was not the only reason for migration. I am now-a-days in Lombok with my Indonesian wife, however, actually it is me who prefers the beach. She would not mind to live in Switzerland. But, silly as it may sound, I had to choose between being a poor man in a rich country or a rich man in a poor country. Ah, well, let's see what the future still has in store for us. (I suppose having lived in 15 countries all my life the 'settling abroad' thing also is not so special. At home everywhere a little and nowhere quite (which includes good old Switzerland I suppose).

Definitely go for "Rich man in a poor country". Though it's probably better to be single. If you take someone from here who likes her creature comforts, your relationship will not last long somewhere poorer.
I was in my mid-30s when I got tired of the so-called perfection of our Switzerland. I was married but couldn't take it anymore. I simply HAD to leave. I was lucky enough to lead a group to Ecuador for a small travel agency and that was it. It had to be Latin America. After that, I backpacked alone for several months in Guatemala...led more trips...and met my husband, a Salasaca Indian from the highlands, in Galapagos. We married, first lived in the popular neighborhood of South Quito for a year before returning to Galapagos and building our home and future there. I worked as a nature guide on the tourist boats - 40 years ago it was much more adventurous than today! - and as a language teacher (F/E/D) during the slacker times. A wonderful time in a paradise!
(I only ever lived with locals. And also worked and earned (badly) like them! Never did I look for Swiss clubs. There I should have stayed better in CH!)
Unfortunately, we had to return to CH to look at my aging mother. (I was an only child. She didn't want to move in with us). Actually not a bad thing: my husband learned French and acquired CH nationality. Thus, we were both dual citizens! After my mother's death, we had to decide, either go back to Ecuador or stay in Europe.... Andalusia seemed to be the perfect compromise!!!
Here we found a completely different paradise at the foot of the Sierra Nevada. Another dream came true: our own olive oil, oranges, lemons, pomegranates, almonds...and more! It should have stayed like this for a few more decades. But cancer decided otherwise and a year ago robbed me of the love of my life....
I will stay here as long as I physically can. Working in the countryside is not easy. After that? Back to CH? I don't know yet... I'm only 72.

Ich hatte das Glück für eine kleine Reise-Agentur eine Gruppe nach Ecuador zu leiten und damit war's geschehen. Es musste Latein Amerika sein. Danach reiste ich während mehreren Monaten alleine mit Rucksack in Guatemala...leitete weitere Reisen...und lernte meinen Mann, ein Salasaca Indianer aus dem Hochland, in Galapagos kennen. Wir heirateten, lebten zuerst ein Jahr im populären Viertel von Süd Quito bevor wir nach Galapagos zurückkehrten und uns unser Haus und unsere Zukunft dort aufbauten. Ich arbeitete als Naturführerin auf den Touristenboote - vor bals 40 Jahren war das viel abenteuerlicher als heute! - und als Sprachlehrerin (F/E/D) während den flaueren Zeiten. Eine wundervolle Zeit in einem Paradies!
(Ich habe immer nur mit Einheimischen gelebt. Und auch wie sie gearbeitet und (schlecht) verdient! Nie habe ich Schweizer Clubs gesucht. Da hätte ich besser in der CH bleiben müssen!)
Leider mussten wir in die CH zurück, um zu meiner alternder Mutter zu schauen. (Ich war Einzelkind. Sie wollte nicht zu uns ziehen). Eigentlich keine schlechte Sache: mein Mann lernte französisch und erwarb die CH-Nationalität. Somit waren wir beide Doppelbürger! Nach dem Tod meiner Mutter, mussten wir entscheiden, entweder zurück nach Ecuador oder in Europa bleiben... Andalusien schein der perfekte Kompromiss!!!
Hier fanden wir ein ganz anderes Paradies am Fusse der Sierra Nevada. Ein weiterer Traum wurde wahr: unser eignes Olivenöl, Orangen, Zitronen, Granatäpfel, Mandeln...und mehr! Es hätte noch einige Jahrzehnte so bleiben sollen. Aber der Krebs entschied anders und hat vor einem Jahr mich um die Liebe meines Lebens geraubt...
Ich bleibe hier solange ich es körperlich kann. Die Arbeit auf dem Land ist nicht einfach. Danach? In die CH zurück? Ich weiss noch nicht... bin ja erst 72.

Growing up on a farm in the canton of Aargau, I took over the connection with nature until today.
After an apprenticeship as a book printer, which did not satisfy me after a few years, I changed to the insurance field service and stayed for 30 years, with very good success. A burn-out and divorce caused me to emigrate to Spain. I was 56 years old at the time, but thanks to my very good fitness as a result of my love of nature and climbing almost all the four-thousand-meter peaks in Switzerland, I quickly recovered in the Mediterranean and the good climate.
The SAC am Albis was celebrating its 100th birthday and announced a demanding tour of the Andes in Bolivia, with ascents of 5 and 6 thousand meter peaks.

It was an unforgettable adventure, and for me, complete relaxation in the great outdoors.
I stayed a few more days in Bolivia, because I liked it with these simple, friendly people, and then flew to Peru, where I visited a well-known family with Swiss roots.
Here now my new life begins, because in the Swiss club I was with my host, there we met a young Peruvian woman, and we got into conversation. We then met alone, and fell in love, however I had to fly back to Switzerland in two days, she accompanied me to the airport and gave me her address.
Back in Spain I felt really lonely and contacted her. 2 months later I was back in Peru and it began an incredible journey into a world unknown to me, where the future did not count, but only the now. Of course I had problems, after the many years of only success and earning money, etc., but I liked it better and better, and after a three-month tour across Peru and longer stay in Lima, we traveled together to my house in Spain.
We got married in Switzerland, but lived in Spain for 6 years where we had two girls,
who are now 20 and 21 years old. In 2006 we moved to Peru, and are still in Vichayito in the north of Peru on the Pacific Ocean, but we visit Switzerland and Spain every year.

Nach einer Buchdruckerlehre, die mich nach ein paar Jahren nicht befriedigte, wechselte ich in den Versicherung-Außendienst und blieb 30 Jahre, mit sehr gutem Erfolg. Ein Burn-out und Scheidung veranlasste mich nach Spanien auszuwandern. Ich war damals 56 Jahre alt, aber dank meiner sehr guten Fitness infolge meiner Naturverbundenheit und Besteigung fast aller Viertausender in der Schweiz, erholte ich mich am Mittelmeer und dem guten Klima schnell wieder.

Bergen. Da ich noch immer Kontakt hatte, mit der Tourenleiterin, meldete ich mich an.
Es war ein unvergessliches Abenteuer, und für mich die vollständige Erholung in freier Natur.
Ich blieb noch einige Tage in Bolivien, denn es gefiel mir bei diesen einfachen, freundlichen Menschen und flog anschließend nach Peru, wo ich eine bekannte Familie mit Schweizer Wurzeln besuchte.
Hier nun beginnt mein neues Leben, denn im Schweizer Klub war ich mit meinem Gastgeber, dort begegneten wir einer jungen Peruanerin, und wir kamen ins Gespräch. Wir trafen uns dann alleine, und verliebten uns, jedoch ich musste in zwei Tagen wieder in die Schweiz fliegen, sie begleitete mich zum Flughafen und gab mir ihre Adresse.
Wieder in Spanien fühlte ich mich echt einsam und nahm Kontakt auf. 2 Monate später war ich wieder in Peru und es begann eine unglaubliche Reise in eine mir unbekannte Welt, wo die Zukunft nicht zählte, sondern nur das jetzt. Natürlich hatte ich Probleme, nach den vielen Jahren nur Erfolg und Geldverdienen, usw., jedoch es gefiel mir immer besser, und nach einer dreimonatigen Tour quer durch Peru und längerem Aufenthalt in Lima, reisten wir zusammen in mein Haus in Spanien.
Wir heirateten in der Schweiz, aber wohnten 6 Jahre in Spanien wo wir zwei Mädchen,
die jetzt 20 und 21 Jahre alt sind, haben. Im 2006 zügelten wir dann nach Peru, und sind bis heute in Vichayito im Norden Perus am Pazifik, aber wir besuchen die Schweiz und Spanien jedes Jahr.

I left Switzerland 22 years ago, lived first 10 years in Berlin, then meanwhile 12 years on Bali, because Berliner only smiles at me from the heart, and because it is always 28 degrees on Bali at sea level. So simple.
I was fed up with the exuberant Swiss purity: asphalt everywhere. Dared a little plant to sprout, called weed, away with it. A mania for cleanliness bordering on illness.
I was fed up with the pseudo-friendliness that did not come from the heart, arising from the fear-generated desire to defend one's own little garden.
I love the Swiss soil, the Swiss country. But there is a thick worm in it. I could write an essay about it, but I won't do that here.
But I say with fervor: Hail, Helvetia. Thank you that I was allowed to grow up in the Suhrental, since there were still bakers, cheese makers, blacksmiths, farmers, sextons, photographers, carpenters, carpenters, village policemen.

Ich hatte die überbordende schweizerische Reinheit satt: All überall Asphalt. Wagte ein Pflänzchen zu sprießen, Unkraut genannt, weg damit. An Krankheit grenzender Sauberkeitswahn.
Ich hatte satt die nicht von Herzen kommende Scheinfreundlichkeit, entspringend dem angstgenerierten Wunsch, das eigene Gärtchen zu verteidigen.
Ich liebe die Schweizerscholle, das Schweizerland. Ist da aber ein dicker Wurm drin. Könnte einen Aufsatz darüber verfassen, tue ich hier nicht.

Fewer men? That is a surprise, given the number of foreign men in Switzerland. I understand women not wanting to move, as they want to remain near their family, and potential grandparents / baby sitters when they have children. I followed my Swiss partner here for love, but when the love died, I stayed, as I had a great job and social life by then and didn't want to give it up. But it's hard sometimes not being near my family, especially as my parents are old. But I plan to return when I retire. Too expensive here.

In 2012, I was in Geneva for the EBACE business aviation conference at Palexpo, and had learned she lived nearby. So I sent her a LinkedIn message, suggesting we meet for coffee. She took me to Cafe de Soleil for fondue, and we tried to catch up on two decades of each other's lives. There was a spark, which had been there from the first time we met in the late 70s, and we kept in contact through the summer. When I visited her again in August, I decided I needed to relocate to Europe to see her more often. I tried to get my company to transfer me, but when they dragged their feet I chose to retire early and move to Switzerland. Best 10 years of my life. I have applied for Swiss naturalisation and hope it will come through soon.
