Stiff competition for places in academic schools
Places at upper secondary schools are in great demand in Switzerland. Over the next few days, primary school pupils in canton Zürich are taking their admission tests to these academic schools. About 20 per cent of all students attend them – leading to the "matura" school leaving certificate, which grants access to all universities. The proportion is very low compared with other European countries, and there’s a political debate over whether access to high schools should be broadened. (SF/swissinfo.ch)
