The Gotthard Tunnel is the longest road tunnel in Switzerland and the third-longest in the world at 16.4km. Switzerland is also building the world’s largest rail tunnel – 57km – along the Gotthard route through the Alps. A look back at the Gotthard’s chequered history. (SF/swissinfo.ch)
