Swiss Post buys German mail company
The Swiss Post is strengthening its position outside Switzerland with the acquisition of a German company, Mail Distribution System, which is active in international mail.
A statement from Swiss Post on Monday said the deal was retroactive to January 1 but gave no purchase price.
It added that the acquisition was a logical step. “It consolidates Swiss Post’s position as leader of the Swiss market, strengthens its links with world networks and gives it a solid distribution structure in one of its key markets, enabling it to operate independently.”
Swiss Post said MDS had become a prime player in the German market among the competitors of Deutsche Post.
MDS is active throughout Germany, mainly in the Cologne, Stuttgart and Munich areas.
