US museum highlights Swiss innovators
The Computer Museum of Mountain View in California showcased the work of five computer pioneers, including three Swiss, on Wednesday. The three specialists spoke at a conference celebrating the invention of the mouse.
Along with Americans Bill English and Stuart Card, the Swiss Daniel Borel, Niklaus Wirth and Jean-Daniel Nicoud talked about their experiences at Xerox’s famous research laboratory in Palo Alto.
Borel is best known as one of the founders of Logitech, the world’s leading peripherals manufacturer. The company was created 20 years ago, and is best known for its computer mice.
Wirth, a former professor at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, integrated the mouse concept into workstations he designed in the Eighties. Wirth is also known as a programming language specialist.
Nicoud, another university professor, developed the first mouse sold by Logitech, the Depraz mouse. He also designed the Smaky family of personal computers.
