A publicity stunt claiming anyone taking photos in the tourist resort of Bergün would be fined has ended after only two days.

The alleged ban in the village in the southeastern Alps of Switzerland generated headlines outside the country when it was announced earlier this week.

The stunt was the brain-child of a marketing agency commissioned by the Bergün authorities and regional tourist offices. The statement issued announcing that pictures would not be allowed said the local council had voted in favour of it by 46 to 2 votes.

The grounds? Photos of Bergün seen by people unable to visit the place would make them unhappy.

The local authorities claim the stunt reached millions of people worldwide thanks to media reports and social media.
