Lugano keep up the chase
Lugano have moved up to second place in the Swiss football league table after a 4-1 win over bottom side Sion.
Lugano, who are now directly behind Basel in the standings and one place ahead of Grasshoppers Zurich, encountered no difficulties during their away match against Sion on Wednesday. The Ticino team’s first two goals were scored by Olivier Biaggi and Julio Hernan Rossi.
Sion briefly came out of their torpor, with a goal from Izzet Akgül. But the Lugano locomotive stayed on track, with two other goals from Sergio José Bastida and Rossi.
Sion remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the division, with fives losses from their five championship round matches.
Despite Wednesday’s victory, Lugano are still six points away from Basel, who have played one match less.
