Schnyder slips up at Wimbledon
Switzerland's Patty Schnyder is out of this year's Wimbledon tournament, after losing her second round match against Argentina's Paola Suarez.
Schnyder took the first set 7-6, after forcing a tiebreak. But the match slipped through her fingers in the second and third, both of which she lost 6-3.
This was all despite her having been expected to get the better of Suarez, who had never before won at a grass court tournament.
It was Suarez’ second Swiss scalp. She beat Emmanuelle Gagliardi in the first round.
Schnyder’s defeat leaves Martina Hingis as the only Swiss player carrying the flag in the women’s singles. Hingis, the world number 1, faces Croatia’s Silvija Talaja, ranked 22, in the third round.
